A PC version of the recently announced Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition won't be a surprise, with one of the developers, Saber Interactive, confirming that the engine of the game is capable of running on the PC with minimum modifications.

Microsoft is set to delight the legions of Halo fans on the Xbox 360 console with the upcoming release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition, a high-definition remastering of the first Halo title, with improved graphics, refined gameplay and a special feature that allows players to switch between the HD version of Halo and the classic one.

This is possible because of Saber Interactive's Saber3D engine, which is highly capable of running the two game modes simultaneously, but with the mechanics used by Bungie, the original developer of Halo, in the first game.

Speaking with Edge magazine, via CVG, Saber CEO Matthew Karch confirmed that because of the versatility of the engine, a PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved HD is possible, saying that, "It's not something that's happening at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did."

"One of the reasons Microsoft decided to work with us is because the tech was strong, and this game's a lot about execution," he added. "And as we work more with those guys we see a lot of opportunities, and I hope they do, too. We've had a lot of positive press. This is how remakes should be done. We've put as much effort into it as a full game."

Saber Interactive is helped out by Certain Affinity, and are both under the supervision of Microsoft's 343 Industries, the studio in charge of the Halo franchise, which is currently working hard on next year's Halo 4, the start of a new trilogy in the series.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition is set to appear on November 18, exclusively for the Xbox 360, at least for now.
