New titles dominate the charts

PC gaming has been doomed by various analysts and developers in the gaming industry for quite some time. Its fate was sealed, in their opinion, by consoles, which hold the key to the future of virtual entertainment because of their low piracy rates and the more developer-friendly platforms.

But things are still going well for the most popular gaming platform in the world, as a lot of titles are doing great despite being launched only for the PC. That is why we post the weekly sales chart for the PC platform in order to see just what titles are selling in all of the retail sectors, both traditional and digital ones.

This week holds some pretty interesting titles besides the old favorites, especially in the NPD retail chart, where even though World of Warcraft's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is still dominant, followed by Maxis' Sims 2 Double Deluxe, Stardock's Demigod has managed to reach the number three spot, despite a rather rocky launch. It's also nice to see that Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor is still going strong while the free Survival Pack for Left 4 Dead has offered it a boost in sales.

The new content gave it a boost not only in retail sales but also on Valve's digital store, Steam, where it occupies the second place, behind The Orange Box, which saw a massive discount last weekend. As NCsoft brought its MMO lineup to Steam last week, gamers were very thrilled and downloaded the Guild Wars Trilogy quite a lot of times, pushing it to the number five spot. Last week's number two, Zeno Clash, is now on a respectable seventh place, but what it lost in term of sales on Steam, it gained on Direct2Drive.

The other popular digital download service has been dominated by ACE's first-person brawler, granting it the number one spot in sales. Civilization IV follows it, while the ever so popular Final Fantasy XI takes the number three place. While the other spots are occupied by almost the same titles as last week, Mass Effect makes a surprising appearance, showing that you can't keep a good RPG down.
