HP introduced several new thin PC computing solutions that will make customers rethink their PC experience and reorganize their preferences. Knowing its products have weight in the area of thin computing, HP expanded its portfolio with HP thin client platforms, client virtualization solutions and multiseat solutions. This would add the desire to be thin as another similarity between man and machine these days.

Thin client platforms are designed to optimize the end-user experience for client virtualization by delivering a higher performance and remarkable ease of use, virtualization that is provided as a high-quality user experience with increased scalability and reliability in a secure environment, not to mention at a very convenient price. The HP multiseat feature complements the previous two through doubling the computing seats without expanding IT budgets for smaller environments, offering possibilities for an easy set-up and low power consumption. Among the thin computing platforms mentioned before are the new HP t5740 and the HP t5745 Flexible Series, clients that deliver a superb computing experience for client virtualization deployments.

They employ the Intel Atom N280 CPU and the Intel GL40 chipset. They are suited for businesses because they have excellent I/O capabilities provided by eight USB 2.0 ports and an optional PCI expansion module for easy upgrades. The HP Flexible Series also meets stringent ENERGY STAR®, EPEAT® Silver and Energy Using Products Directive (EuP) Lot 6 requirements. As an addition to this line of thin products is the new HP LD4700 47-inch Widescreen LCD Digital Signage Display, which can run 24/7 in both bright and dim lighting while maintaining longevity, and can be set in either a horizontal or vertical position. The Digital Signage Display (DSD) Wall Mount allows users to hang the display on a wall to showcase media files more pleasurably.

There is also a low-cost, power-efficient client, the HP t5325 Essential Series Thin Client. All clients are easy to set up, with applications such as The ThinPro Setup Wizard for Linux and HP Easy Config for Microsoft Windows. HP is extending the power of its Converged Infrastructure strategy to help customers accelerate the delivery of client virtualization with solutions that combine servers, storage, software and thin clients, along with services and support. HP ProLiant WS460c G6 Workstation Blade brings centralized, mission-critical security and reliability to workstation computing through allowing teams to collaborate remotely. In parallel, HP Client Automation 7.8, part of the HP Business Service Automation software portfolio and fully supporting Windows 7, allows customers to easily deploy and migrate to a virtual desktop infrastructure environment and manage it through the entire life cycle.

The company also put together the new HP Technology Services implementation, support and education offerings that help organizations lower the complexity and risk with new business-value services. This is done through the HP Transformation Experience Workshop (helps customers build their strategy for virtualized solutions), the HP Business Benefit Workshop (allows customers to identify, quantify and analyze the business benefits of client virtualization) and the Enhanced HP Solution Architecture and Pilot Service (which ensures the successful integration of the client virtualization solution into the customer’s infrastructure).

HP Enterprise services can also host the customer’s applications and data in a remote data center and the recently announced HP business computing bundles bring end-to-end IT capabilities to small business owners. Lastly, HP MultiSeat uses the excess computing capacity of a single PC to give up to ten simultaneous users an individualized, fully supported and licensed Microsoft Windows 7 computing experience. This significantly stretches the computing budgets of small businesses and other resource-constrained organizations by delivering up to twice the computing seats as traditional PCs for the same IT spend. Not only that, but the feature also simplifies IT management with a setup simple enough for non-technical users and reduces energy consumption by as much as 80 percent per user over traditional PCs.

Among the currently available products are the HP t5740 Flexible Series Thin Client (starts at $429), the HP 5745 Flexible Series Thin Client ($399), the HP LD4700 47-inch Widescreen LCD Digital Signage ($1,799) and the HP ProLiant WS460c G6 Blade Workstation (retail price of $3,044). The HP t5325 Essential Series Thin Client will have a starting price of $199 and is expected to be available after Dec. 1.
