DefCamp 2013 Bucharest has come to an end. All attendees can probably agree that the event, hosted at the Crystal Palace Ballrooms, has been highly captivating.

Romania’s main information security conference has come a long way since the first edition. This year, around 350 people took part. Many of them came from other countries, so all the speakers presented their work in English.

During the two days, attendees and speakers debated all possible topics related to infosec, including malware, cybercrime, mobile security, cryptography and, of course, state surveillance.

The keynotes were held by Raoul “Nobody” Chiesa, founder and president of The Security Brokers, and Carsten Eiram, chief research officer at Risk Based Security. Both of them have been highly active throughout DefCamp.

Other information security experts who have shared the results of their research are Nathan LaFollette, Adrian Furtuna, Andrei Costin, Robert Knapp, Bogdan Alecu, Kizz MyAnthia, Brindusa Stefan Cristian, and George-Alexandru “KGB” Andrei.

The list also includes Anatolie Prisacaru, Bogdan Manolea, Marius Barat, Alexandru Citea, Radu Stanescu, Alex Negrea, Bogdan-Ioan Suta, Ionut Popescu, Nicolae Daniel Bugarin, Milan Gabor and Danijel Grah.

Lucian Constantin of IDG News Service has moderated a panel on the controversial Dutch law that would give law enforcement the ability to hack into the computers of individuals suspected of being involved in serious crimes. Chiesa, Eiram, Internet legislation expert Bogdan Manolea, and a representative from Bitdefender analyzed all the aspects of the story.

Other activities include the DefCamp Capture the Flag (DCTF), Wall of Sheep, App2Own, Hack The Machine and Spot the Cop.

One noteworthy thing is that several women have attended DefCamp, once again demonstrating that women do belong in the tech industry.

We’ve made a video overview of the event. Check it out to see how it all went down!
