Overkill Software and parent company Starbreeze confirm that they've partnered with 505 Games to bring the upcoming The Walking Dead game onto PS4 and Xbox One, while self-publishing the title onto the PC in 2016.

The Walking Dead series has been around for quite some time, as author Robert Kirkman brought some great comic books over the years, while partnering with other companies to bring the series to new types of media. In terms of videos games, there have already been several interactive experiences, ranging from great, like Telltale's The Walking Dead, to less than great, like Activision's The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

The latest studio to partner with Kirkman is Overkill Software, the developer of the Payday series, but not much else is known about the project.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is coming in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Fortunately, things are changing, as Overkill and its parent company, Starbreeze, confirm on the official website that they've partnered with publisher 505 Games to bring Overkill's The Walking Dead game onto the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. At the same time, the two companies are also bringing the title to the PC by self-publishing it.

In addition to this partnership, the studios confirm that the game is set to launch in 2016.

A few general details are also available

A few brief gameplay details are also available, as Overkill and Starbreeze confirm that their The Walking Dead game is a cooperative experience that's going to explore new characters and storylines in the general series.

Robert Kirkman previously mentioned that a multiplayer component was going to be included in the game, so this is the official confirmation. Considering Payday 2 is still enjoying a huge amount of popularity thanks to its cooperative experience, the new title has a lot to live up to.

Expect to hear more details about Overkill's The Walking Dead as we get closer to 2016.
