PowerColor decided to once again apply its PCS+ design to one of the more popular, and recently released video cards, namely the Radeon HD 6850 which Advanced Micro Devices brought forth last last month.

The HD 6000 series of graphics cards is, so far, composed of the HD 6870 and HD 6850, both of which use GPUs based on the 40nm manufacturing process.

They are meant to battle NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 card, meaning they are aimed at the mainstream market.

The new video controller that PowerColor released is a modified version of the less mighty of the two, the HD 6850.

What its maker claims is that not only does it run faster than the original, but it also has a lower operating temperature thanks to the custom cooler.

For those interested in specifics, the cooler uses three copper heatpipes and a 90mm fan to drive heat about 15% lower than the temperature managed by the stock solution.

The actual feature set of the card includes 960 stream processors, 1 GB of VRAM and a GPU clocked at 820 MHz instead of 775 MHz.

Additionally, the memory has a frequency of 4,400 MHz instead of 4,000 MHz and works on an interface of 256 bits.

“The factory overclocked setting ensures gaming efficacy can effortlessly go beyond the standard version, delivering the out of box gaming performance which will easily blow up gamers’ mind,” states the press release.

Other specifications include support for DirectX 11 (obviously), CrossFireX and, of course, multiple video outputs.

The list of connectors includes dual-DVI, a DisplayPort 1.2 connector and HDMI 1.4.

PowerColor's Radeon HD 6850 PCS+ has not exactly been given a price yet but will be sold in a bundle with Call of Duty: modern Warfare 2, a very well-received FPS game released last year.
