Researchers from the Commtouch Security Lab identified a total of 343,927 new malicious websites in November 2013.

According to the company’s Security Number of the Month report, this represents an average of almost 11,500 new sites appearing every day. The sites have been utilized for spam operations, malware attacks, phishing and fraud.

More precisely, 173,314 of the malicious websites have been used for malware, 56,503 for spam, and 114,110 for phishing. However, it’s worth noting that not all of these domains have been registered specifically to serve a malicious purpose.

Many of them are legitimate websites that have been compromised and set up to host a threat.

The malware sites are being utilized to host exploit kits that help cybercriminals gain access to computers and mobile devices. As far as phishing operations are concerned, most of them target PayPal users, but more and more are aimed at Google customers.
