A team of developers from various backgrounds such as Ubisoft, Crytek and Adhesive Games has grouped together to work on a new title, Outrise, that plans to deliver a fresh asymmetrical multiplayer experience to the first-person shooter world.

The main idea behind Outrise's asymmetrical multiplayer is that players on both sides will have to approach the game with different strategies in mind, and the game will be balanced in a way that offers equal opportunities to both sides and presents them with unique aspects of gameplay that will make the experience feel worthwhile.

Project lead James Wearing cited Left 4 Dead as an example of game where every different role contributes to the overall experience in a different way.

“Outrise is a game about multiplayer boss fights and asymmetrical gameplay. Remember reaching the giant boss at the end of a level? Now imagine that boss was controlled by your friend or someone online,” the team stated.

Regarding the perceived similarities to the anticipated first-person shooter from Respawn Entertainment, Titanfall, another game that will allow its players to assume control of giant mechs, Wearing specified that the main difference lies in scale.

“Our bosses are much larger in size relative to the human size, and it's all about having all of the human players against one giant robot,” he said.

“That robot as the one player has a huge variety of weapons they're using. They can stomp on enemies, they can fire lasers, they can kill huge amounts of people very quickly,” he went on to describe the asymmetrical multiplayer experience.

James Wearing and his team of developers have currently stated that they are confident enough in the concept to start receiving feedback from gamers. More information as well as the opportunity to share ideas with the devs are available on Outrise's official webpage.
