Caretakers at Beardsley Zoo in Connecticut, US are happy to announce that four otter pups born at this facility earlier this year are all in perfectly good health, and growing stronger every day.

The North American river otter pups arrived into this world soon after Valentine's Day, on February 15. They spent their first few weeks of life hidden from curious gazes, and have only recently been examined by vets at Beardsley Zoo.

It was thus determined that two of the baby otters are girls, and that the other two are boys, Zoo Borns informs. Apparently, the girls weigh 3.1 pounds (1.4 kilograms) and 2.29 pounds (1.04 kilograms), respectively.

The two very handsome boys, on the other hand, tip the scale at 3.06 pounds (1.4 kilograms) and 3.4 pounds (1.5 kilograms), the same source details.

None of the four North American river otter pups at Beardsley Zoo has until now made its public debut. What's more, keepers say that it will probably be a while until visitors to the facility get to see them in person.

“At nearly nine weeks old, the pups have yet to venture out in public. They opened their eyes for the first time about two weeks ago and are just starting to explore the world around them,” Director Gregg Dancho said in a statement.

“We expect that any day now, their mom will be coaxing them out to teach them to swim. If all goes well, these little ones will be swimming like pros within a week,” he added.
