The Oscars aren’t just a celebration of outstanding achievement in film, they’re also – without a doubt – the perfect opportunity to indulge in excess. For this one night of the year, celebrities have an excuse to deck themselves in outfits that are worth thousands of dollars, and wear diamonds that cost fortunes.

Like Madonna, for instance. She posted the photo above to her Instagram, with a caption that says just, “The Oscar goes to Party ## 7!!!!! #revolutionoflove.”

What she’s not saying is that she’s wearing 1,000 carats of diamonds on her, according to a press release sent out by jeweler Neil Lane to Us Weekly. You can see in the photo that she has a diamond cross on a chain around her neck, a diamond headchain and a diamond oversized ring.

However, the publication reports, she was also wearing diamond bracelets up to her elbow and also had many of these precious gems sewn into her dress.

Madonna got this dolled up for her annual Oscars afterparty, which she usually holds at Guy Oseary’s mansion. Guy is her manager, and the party is one of the most exclusive and fanciest in town.

This year, the Queen of Pop partied with the likes of Charlize Theron and ex-husband Sean Penn, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, pop star Miley Cyrus (aka Madonna’s new BFF), and Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi. In other words, some of the biggest names in showbiz were there, at Madonna’s party so, in a way, it makes sense for her to want to look her best.

The aforementioned celebrity publication puts things into perspective when it comes to the cost of Madonna’s borrowed bling, “Oscar presenter Anne Hathaway, who looked gorgeous at the Dolby Theatre wearing a black silk crepe Gucci column gown, paired her outfit with 100-carats of diamond and platinum bracelets by Neil Lane. The total cost of Hathaway's jewels amounted to a cool $1 million [€728,279].”

“Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who stunned in an elaborate rock crystal diamond and platinum necklace, also wore 100-carats of diamonds that were worth $2 million [€1.45 million],” Us Weekly says.

Based on this, a rough estimate would be that Madonna wore $20 million (€14.5 million) worth of diamonds. An insider says for the e-zine that security was very tight at the event, both because attendees were promised privacy from the ever-prying paparazzi and because of the value of their luxury accessories.

One would probably not be that far off if one were to assume Madonna had at least a handful of bodyguards around her at all times.
