The Oscars 2014, held a short while ago at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, saw Jared Leto walk home with his first-ever statuette, the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Above is his acceptance speech in full.

Leto was nominated for his amazing performance as a transgender woman diagnosed with AIDS in “Dallas Buyers Club,” a role that saw him add an impressive number of awards to his already impressive collection.

His speech at the Oscars 2014 showed that, more than a very talented and versatile actor, Leto was a man who was wise beyond his years, humble and with a big heart.

He dedicated his win to his mother, who has risen against her circumstances and had taught her 2 boys to never stop dreaming and to never stop creating. He thanked his fellow nominees and the people who had helped him deliver his best performance possible in the film.

Last but not least, Jared dedicated his win to “all the dreamers out there,” especially in Ukraine and Venezuela, both torn by political protests at the moment, and to the 36 million people who had lost the battle with the terrible AIDS disease.

He promised that they would be thinking of all of them on the biggest night of the year for the film industry.
