Chelsea Handler didn’t attend the Oscars on Sunday, held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, but she live-tweeted the ceremony for Huffington Post Live, before heading out for the Vanity Fair party. She is now accused of being a racist for the things she tweeted, a claim she’s denying in the video above.

Some of Chelsea’s most offensive tweets on the occasion of the Oscars are embedded below and most of them revolved around the joke that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wanted to adopt Lupita Nyong’o, who starred in “12 Years a Slave” and won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role.

Invited on Good Morning America the day after the awards gala, Chelsea didn’t even attempt to pacify those who had taken offense at her tweets, but she did say that she wasn’t racist because she dated black men.

“People are mad at me all the time. If was worried about that then I would be spending a lot of time online. I’d rather be a little more productive. I’m not racist. I date a lot of black people, so that would be a difficult thing to explain to them,” she says.

She seems rather uncomfortable, which is not something you see in Chelsea that often. To the impression that she’s not even convincing herself with this explanation is the fact that she changes the topic of conversation immediately, and becomes more animated when she talks of her new book.
