Seth MacFarlane got plenty of help with hosting the Oscars 2013 last night and perhaps he would have never done such an amazing job as host had it not been for William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series.

Below is the video of the opening monolog, just in case you missed it earlier today.

Captain Kirk came back in time to offer Seth a few pointers on how to make sure he doesn’t “ruin” the Oscars. This included cutting out the song about breasts and making out with Sally Field.

Trekkies loved Shatner’s special appearance, as also did many others, myself included, mostly because it allowed MacFarlane to be irreverent to his heart’s liking without risking to offend anyone.

My question is: did you like it? Do you think Shatner’s cameo made Seth’s hosting better or not? Sound off in the comments section below, right after you see the intro.
