The pup was found abandoned in a box earlier this year

Stories about people finding boxes spilling over with puppies or kittens abandoned on their doorstep are pretty common. Stories about folks stumbling upon orphaned seal pups abandoned in boxes, on the other hand, are pretty rare.

According to Zoo Borns, this is precisely what happened to people working at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game earlier this year, on July 24.

Thus, somebody left an underweight and dehydrated male Northern fur seal pup in a box just outside the Department's offices. A note accompanying the tiny creature said that its mother had died giving birth to it.

Luckily, people at the Alaska SeaLife Center agreed to take the orphaned seal pup under their care, and have done a pretty good job getting it back on its flippers.

For a while, they fed it loads of formula. Recently, they introduced fish in its menu, and the juvenile seal proved very much interested in the possibility of sinking its teeth into something solid. The color of the pup's fur has changed from black to brown.

The pup, named Chiidax, is still fairly small. However, once it hits adulthood, it will weigh an impressive 590 pounds (270 kilograms).
