For at least a year, there have been numerous reports making the rounds on the state of the marriage of Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, with many insiders claiming that they were “done.” In a joint statement, the two confirm that they are effectively separated.

As expected, they don’t list the reasons that led to the demise of their marriage, but they do stress that the split was amicable and all affairs will be conducted in such a way as to affect their son as little as possible.

“In a joint statement, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have announced that they have been amicably separated for the past few months. After six years together, they have recently decided to formalize their separation,” the statement says, as cited by E! News.

“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family,” Orlando and Miranda’s rep adds.

“She and Bloom were last photographed together by the paparazzi on Oct. 8. Their last public appearance was at the opening of Romeo and Juliet on Broadway on Sept. 19. Bloom is currently starring in the production with Condola Rashad,” E! continues.

Shortly after this appearance, Miranda was singing Orlando’s praises in a magazine interview, which temporarily put all split rumors to rest. Mainly because of this, the separation announcement comes as a shock.

Also contributing to the shock is the fact that they made an excellent couple and seemed genuinely happy as a family.

Miranda and Orlando started dating in secret in 2007 and were married in the summer of 2010, one month after going public with the engagement news. Their son Flynn was born in January 2011.

During the six years they were together, they were often plagued by breakup rumors but they always proved them wrong by putting up a united front for the media.
