So you think you're the laughing stock of the whole gamer community still owning an original Xbox console, huh? Well... don't! As it turns out, Microsoft's thinking of you! Don't get too excited, you're not getting an Xbox 360 Elite for free or anything like that, but you might just find yourself holding a free copy of Halo 3 in your hands, once you decide to opt for a new Xbox 360 system (any SKU).

According to this piece up on megagames.com, original Xbox console owners (not owners of an Xbox 360) will need to have an active and currently paid Xbox LIVE account in order to benefit from this deal. If that's you, purchasing an Xbox 360 between November 21st and December 21st, 2007 and then moving your existing paid Xbox LIVE account to an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, will result in Microsoft sending you a copy of Bungie's popular first-person shooter.

Also, those wanting to benefit from the offer will have to both upgrade their existing Xbox LIVE subscription (within the specified time frame) and register on the official Xbox website.

Here's the step-by-step guide, according to the same source:

"1 - Buy an Xbox 360 console between November 21 and December 21, 2007. 2 - Convert your current paid Xbox LIVE account to an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. 3 - Register here between November 21 and December 21, 2007 with promotional code XBX7777, with your new console serial number, and a valid mailing address. 4 - Look for your copy of Halo 3 in your mailbox. It will arrive by January 18, 2008."

So, while you still have to buy a brand new system, setting you back some $270, Halo 3 still is the best selling game ever (for the first week in the wild that is) and if you were already thinking of purchasing a 360, why not hurry up and do it now, saving you some 60 bucks on the game that is driving a whole world crazy?
