More than a remake

The original Silent Hill was quite an innovative title, basically establishing the genre of survival horror videogames. It played on the emotions of the gamers and those of the main characters while offering a game that was scary, tough and exhilarating to complete.

Now, it seems that Konami is set to revive the title and bring it to the Nintendo Wii home gaming console, under the name of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

The Nintendo Power magazine has the first details regarding the videogame, which is set to be more than a remake, taking the main elements of the original release and creating an experience that should be interesting for both newcomers and those who have completed the PlayStation game.

Tomm Hulett, who is a producer on the title, has said that Shattered Memories would be “twisted to betray your expectations” so that “the characters play different roles, things don't necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions.”

The main character will be Harry Mason and his heart and mind will still be broken, generating all the horrors that he will encounter as he progresses through the game. The puzzles will be re-created in order to take advantage of the Wiimote and its unique functionality.

Gestures will probably be used to aim the flashlight and to perform actions on the various objects that the main character comes across. It also seems that the levels will be re-designed so that there's a clear way to get through every locked door. The various characters that the players will meet are set to be much more dynamic, actively watching the player and adapting their actions to those that he/she performs.

Konami is not saying when the game could come out, and despite some scans being leaked online, this could still be a well put together April Fools’ prank. But, hey, it's nice to eagerly wait for a game to be released, especially for a title such as Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
