The multiplayer side of the game can attract new players

God of War: Ascension is confirmed as ready to launch on the PlayStation 3 during 2013 and it seems that at least one veteran developer believes multiplayer can add quite a lot to the action game as long as it is properly executed.

David Jaffe, who created the first two titles in the God of War series and is now working at Eat Sleep Play, told IGN that “I think it looks cool. It looks like another great, impeccably executed Sony Santa Monica game.”

He also offered an opinion on the addition of a multiplayer mode to the game, saying, “Sony Santa Monica, and certainly that team, really hasn’t done anything ever to let people down as game developers.

“If it turns out to be the case that the single player is watered down because of it, then I think they have some justification. But I don’t see any evidence of that, and I don’t see evidence of that based on the team they are.”

Jaffe revealed that, when he was in charge of the series, he was interested in adding a multiplayer mode for God of War, but he was more focused on a cooperative experience than on a competitive battle.

That never materialized because Kratos is a gruff and very lonely character who was always interested in his own objectives and never likes to work with other characters to achieve them.

Jaffe wanted to explore the comedic potential of Kratos, pairing him with another character that hated him but was forced to work with him in order to survive.

Ascension will allow gamers to create their own hero from scratch and then guide him though battles with a range of enemies, most of them requiring teamwork to be defeated, as well as allowing them to take other players on in special events.
