No doubt performance enthusiasts are already plotting, scheming and dreaming devious plans for the acquisition and use of Intel's first consumer-oriented six-core central processor, the Intel Core i7-980X. Having already been reviewed by several websites, the Gulftown is set to enable new levels of performance and overclocking records. Of course, it was only a matter of time before gaming systems based on the hexacore surfaced and, thus, Origin decided not to wait, having added the fresh chip as an option when configuring the Genesis system.

Origin's Genesis can be configured with the highest level of computing, memory, graphical, storage and connectivity options available, as is the case with most gaming and enthusiasts’ systems, but what is rather unique about the new configuration is that the company has made not one but two Gulftown options available.

For those gamers that rightfully feel the 3.33GHz six-core chip is more than powerful enough in its base state, the company has placed the stock version as an option. However, for those that are not content with just that much, it has also added an overclocked version.

The Intel Core i7-980X overclocked version has all six cores running at no less than 4.3GHz. Of course, this option will come at a far greater cost than the one warranted by the stock model, which already adds a nice $895 to the bill, compared to a configuration based on the Intel Core i7-920. Enthusiasts that want six times 4.3GHz processing power will have to pay an extra $1,044.

Unfortunately, since the chip itself is not exactly available yet, neither are the fresh Genesis configuration options. Still, they are up for pre-order and should start shipping by the end of the month. Information on the entire Genesis lineup may be found on the company's official website.
