Fill in missing info from your songs for a clean collection

With the amount of diversity that surrounds us and that we create, every new thing either comes with a label or something by which the source is identified. It’s a method used to prevent theft and copyright infringements.

When it comes to music, you recognize your favorite artist, song, and even the album simply by hearing it. However, corresponding files are equipped with all related details, such as title, composer, album, genre, year, track, and a lot more.

On a computer, these details are called ID3 tags, and there are a few methods through which you can edit them. Not for malicious intentions, of course, but chances are that music files on your computer don’t have details properly integrated and you want to keep the collection organized.

Using Windows built-in features

Step 1: Right-click the audio file you want to edit.

Step 2: Access the Properties panel.

Step 3: Switch to the Details tab.

Step 4: Click next to the field you want to edit and write down corresponding info.

Step 5: Hit Apply and OK to confirm changes.

Step 6: Repeat for all files you want to modify.

This is a lengthy process, even for a single album. Luckily, it only takes an application to do so in a more efficient manner.

With third-party applications

Step 1: Download, install, and run Mp3tag.

Step 2: Drag audio files over the main window to add them to the list.

Step 3: Write down corresponding or missing info in the left pane fields.

Faster alternative

Step 1: Select files in the list.

Step 2: From the Convert menu, select Filename - Tag.

Step 3: Add details to insert from the button next to the input field.

Step 4: Press OK to confirm.
