Motorola’s latest device, and also the company's first handset powered by Google's Android operating system, the Motorola CLIQ, will become available in the UK via wireless carrier Orange as the Motorola DEXT starting with early October this year. The UK operator has announced today that it will launch the new phone for free on a 24-month contract agreement for a monthly plan of £34.26 (which includes 900 call minutes in any network, unlimited texts, access to Orange Maps and inclusive anytime Internet browsing).

The new handset will deliver Orange's users a side sliding QWERTY keyboard, as well as a touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, easy access to social networking sites such as Facebook, Picassa, Photobucket or MySpace, a full HTML browser, 3G connectivity, a 3.5mm headset jack, support for Google Mobile Services: Maps, Talk, Mail, Voice Search, as well as a GPS receiver and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.

“Today’s phone needs to be more than just ‘smart’. It needs to be social. DEXT with MOTOBLUR brings the most important social connections in your life front and centre to your home screen meaning you can spend more time living your life and less time managing it,” said Ralf Gerbershagen, vice president and general manager of Motorola Western Europe.

In addition to the above-mentioned features, the Motorola DEXT also includes the phone maker’s MOTOBLUR, which is set to deliver a new experience to Android users through syncing contacts, posts, feeds, photos, messages, e-mails and more from various sources, including social networks like Facebook, email accounts or LastFM. At the same time, users will have access to a wide range of applications available through the Android Market for their operating system.

Francois Mahieu, director of Devices, Orange UK commented, “We’re really pleased to be exclusively offering the DEXT to UK consumers. The device builds on our commitment to bring the latest innovative multimedia handsets to market and fits perfectly with our existing portfolio of products and services - allowing consumers to make the most from their social networks on the mobile.”
