Offering more minutes and texts

Recently, Orange has announced that it has relaunched 24-month contracts, with three of their most popular tariffs being available for two years.

Customers that are willing to get stuck to Orange for two whole years for a new subsidized handset will now be offered bonus minutes and text from Orange UK. Depending on what type of contract a user is on, the benefits compared to the 18 month contracts are as follows: on Canary the user will get an additional 450 voice minutes, on Dolphin and Racoon 300 extra minutes. As for text messages, on Canary there will be 150 more, 50 extra on Racoon and unlimited, as before, for Dolphin.

"Our new 24-month contracts are perfect for those looking to get significantly better value in return for a lengthened commitment and hanging on to their handset for two years," says Orange's Rob Kerrison. "Customers can talk and text even more, reducing the chance of having to spend beyond their monthly package cost."

The mobile operator has tried to introduce the 24-month contract a few years back but decided to withdraw it soon enough, claiming that the market wasn't ready. According to Orange, around 70 percent of its customers since August last year are on 18-month contracts.

Now, this should be rather weird considering that most customers seem to think even 18 month is too much until they get themselves a new handset. But for Orange this can be only a good thing, as they won't have to offer those subsidized handsets that upgrade customers expect to receive every year. This is why Orange is aiming to reward the customers that are up for a two-year commitment.
