Seeing the impact of his hit “Happy” leaves singer speechless, in tears

Pharrell Williams is promoting his latest album right now, so he stopped by Oprah the other night for a chat that aired on Oprah Prime, on OWN. At one point in the interview, the world famous singer and producer was at a complete loss for words, crying.

It wasn’t bad, though. As you can see in the video below, Pharrell was crying “Happy” tears, as he was moved by a video that Oprah played for him, of people recreating the official music video in all corners of the world.

As you probably know, “Happy” is one of the biggest releases of recent months: not only did it get an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song (unfortunately, it did not win), but it topped the charts worldwide, while the video went viral.

It spawned a new Internet craze too, so that, in a matter of weeks, many locations across the globe had their own versions of “Happy.”

Considering that Pharrell had a particularly tough time writing the song and then getting radio stations to play it, seeing the success it had would move a stone to tears, no doubt about it. He told Oprah that the inspiration for it came just when he was about to give up because he’d decided he had no inspiration.
