Chinese company Oppo teased its customers with a short video showing the latest changes it plans to include in the next version of ColorOS.

ColorOS 2.1 has been in the works for some time and will be released soon. The new OS is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and brings lots of new features and improvements.

Today, Oppo launched a beta ColorOS 2.1 ROM, which is now available for download, as long as you own a Find 7 or Find 7a smartphone.

The beta ROM is only available for these two devices, but the final version will be launched for a few more Oppo smartphones.

Along with the launch announcement, Oppo also listed the most important enhancements its engineers implemented in ColorOS 2.1. Keep in mind that some of these improvements and new features might not make it in the final build, while new ones might be added.

The most obvious change is the new design. ColorOS 2.1 features a simple and flat icon design. The colors should now look brighter and more energetic, while icons are simpler and easier to recognize.

Lots of visual changes have been implemented

The second level interface has been redesigned, so expect to see subtle changes of the small icons, which are meant to make the entire OS look much more appealing.

Oppo also stated that it had carefully selected 12 new wallpapers for the ColorOS 2.1, so users can choose which one they think suits them best.

Among the new features introduced is the new email application that has been built on a new engine and it's much faster than the previous one.

Also, ColorOS 2.1 now allows users to control the network access for each application installed on the phone. You can even customize the type of network allowed (Wi-Fi or Mobile Data) for every single application.

Those who own a Find 7 or Find 7a smartphone and want to flash the ColorOS 2.1 beta ROM may want to read about all the changes it brings on Oppo's forums.
