Developer and publisher Codemasters has announced that its upcoming military shooter Operation Flashpoint: Red River is set to be launched on April 21 in Europe and on April 26 in North America, with players able to get the game for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

The company also offered information on another character that will be part of the squad that players will fight with in the game, the auto rifleman of Fireteam Bravo, Corporal Ryan Balletto.

The Corporal is all about delivering firepower in concentrated form to the enemy and the auto rifleman uses the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, also known as SAW.

The auto rifleman needs to work together with the scout, the rifleman and the grenadier in perfect synchronization, in order to detect, suppress, assault and then eliminate enemy position in the dangerous land of Tajikistan.

Ryan Balletto's personality is best summed up in the words: “come on down to sunny old Tajikistan. I mean, the food sucks, the people look at you funny and at least once a day somebody’s shooting at you. But you can’t beat the entertainment, buddy.”

Operation Flashpoint: Red River takes place in the real world country of Tajiskistan, in 2013, when a civil conflict explodes and the United States decides to send in the Marine Corps in order to keep order and secure important strategic resources.

The Chinese government also decides to get involved and sends the People's Liberation Army in and a conflict between the two quickly breaks out.

Red River builds on the mechanics gamers have already seen in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Codematers promises that each mission will be more challenging, with better scripted enemy routines and tougher objectives.

The developers are promising a “substantial” single-player campaign that can accommodate up to four players and several Fireteam scenarios that detail smaller engagements.
