More multiplayer

Codemasters has announced that Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, the military simulator it released earlier in the year, has received a new downloadable content pack, called Overwatch, which is set to deliver new Fire Team missions and two new game modes for the multiplayer section.

At the moment, players who own the Xbox 360 version of the videogame can get the new package from the Xbox Live Marketplace for 400 Microsoft Points. The same content will soon be offered on the PlayStation Store for the PS3 for 4.99 dollars, while PC players will get the same additions free of charge at some point in the future.

For the single player and cooperative minded gamers, the two new Fire Team missions are Friendly Skies, which is focused on taking out enemy anti air emplacements to allow friendly reinforcements to land while defending from a determined enemy counterattack, and Hostile Takeover, which focuses on gritty urban combat within the confines of the Armudan village.

When it comes to multiplayer, the two new modes are: Blindside, focused on the PLA making rapid advancement to some objectives, while the United States Marine Corps needs to defend them while being outnumbered, and Supremacy, a normal team-based deathmatch mode where several areas have force multiplayers, like air strikes and heavy guns. The two new modes allow players to get some more diversity from Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Codemasters created a good game in Operation Flashpoint; unfortunately, the experience seemed rather contrived for a title that claimed to simulate no less than 220 square kilometers from the island of Skira, which the People's Liberation Army and the USMC are disputing. Land and air vehicles, which are fully simulated in the game, make little precious appearances and the DLC seems to do little to change that.
