The highly-acclaimed Opera Mini mobile web browser will be available via Smart Communications carrier in the Philippines.

In this regard, Opera and major carrier Smart have just announced a new agreement to bring to subscribers the best Internet experience with an improved Smart-Opera Mini browser.

With Opera Mini mobile web browser Smart subscribers will take advantage of its convenient compression technology that decreases the size of webpages by up to 90% before sending them to the phone.

In addition, page loading will be much faster, which translates in lowers data costs when users access the Web on a mobile network.

According to Smart, more than 3,000 mobile device models in the Philippines, ranging from basic feature phones to high-end smartphones and tablets, will benefit from this immersive Web browsing experience.

While our network and system are ready to provide data services, the challenge lies in the devices through which our subscribers access the Internet. Opera Mini on a Smart cellphone can help introduce the mobile Internet experience to our subscribers, as it allows the Web to ‘fit’ perfectly and comfortably into any cellphone,” said Orlando Vea, Co-founder and Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart.

The new partnership greatly helps Smart’s ALWAYS ON packages, which are based on data volumes.

Thanks to its low data size, Opera Mini is a perfect match-up to Smart’s ALWAYS ON packages that allows subscribers to stay connected at a more affordable rate based on the amount of data they want to consume.

This Smart-Opera Mini browser is a more refined browser for a great web experience. It is faster, smoother and smarter. We are excited to work with Smart to make the customized version available for Filipinos. I believe this will become your best friend when you are on the go with mobile phones or tablets,” concluded Rolf Assev, Head of Corporate Development and M&A, Opera Software.

Both Smart-Opera Mini 4.3 and Smart-Opera Mini 6.1 mobile browsers are now available as free downloads through http://m.opera.com/.
