Norwegian software company Opera announced today the availability of the new Opera Mobile 9.7 browser for Windows Mobile-based handsets. The new software solution comes with impressive browsing speed capabilities due to the addition of Opera’s recently launched technology, Opera Turbo. Moreover, the new browser also includes the company's newly upgraded browser engine, called Opera Presto 2.2, meant to deliver faster page loads and an increased performance.

The new Opera Mobile 9.7 beta also comes with Opera Widgets, meant to enable users to find on the Web what they need with fewer clicks. The mobile version of Opera Turbo comes with server-accelerated rendering, improving download rates and the overall performance, and with the compression technology, meant to speed up data transfer, while also reducing the amount of data that users would need to download on their mobile phone by 80 percent.

“There are other mobile browsers on the market that claim to be faster and more Web site-compatible on Windows-based phones, but I challenge users to take Opera Mobile for a test drive and discover a new standard for speed and compatibility. Opera Mobile 9.7 leaves other ‘sluggish’ and ‘painfully slow’ browsers in the dust,” Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software, said. “It is our belief in One Web that challenges us to develop technology such as Opera Turbo. Not everyone owns a 3G phone and not everyone needs to. This is why Opera’s focus is on improving our browser so that your EDGE network feels like you’re surfing 3G style or better,” Tetzchner continued.

Opera Presto 2.2, the latest rendering engine from Opera, enables up to 25 percent faster speeds when it comes to displaying the Web pages on the mobile phone. In addition, the Opera Widgets manager and Opera Widgets SDK that come with Opera Mobile 9.7 allow users to access favorite services with just one click, and include pre-installed widgets: GeoQuiz, Twitter, Bubbles, MyStatus, Google Translate.

The newly released Opera Mobile 9.7 beta works on Windows Mobile 5/6 handsets, but only on those that feature touch-screen capabilities. There are a few things that still do not work properly with the software solution, such as the fact that users won't be able to download files while Opera Turbo is enabled, or the fact that the Opera Turbo should be disabled when the Widget manager is in use. More details can be found on Opera's website.
