The newest issue of Opera Software’s monthly State of the Mobile Web Report acknowledges that more than 2.6 million people used Opera Mini on their Apple handset in the two weeks following April’s mid-month launch. The company is extremely pleased with these results, noting that the move to launch Opera Mini for iPhone has reshaped both the top ten countries and the top handsets for mobile Web usage.

In The States, Opera jumped two spots in the top 10 country ranking. Globally, the iPhone became the third most popular device to run Opera Mini. “This surge in new Opera Mini users reshaped both the top 10 countries and the top handsets for mobile Web usage, according to Opera’s State of the Mobile Web Report,” Opera Software said. The State of the Mobile Web Report provides information on the top global trends affecting the mobile Web, as well as mobile browsing trends in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Opera Software explains.

The report names a few key findings on a global level. For example, April 2010 saw Opera Mini tally more than 58.9 million users, an increase of 6.6% from March 2010, and more than 152% compared with April 2009, according to the Norwegian software company. It also lists the top 10 countries for Opera Mini usage in April 2010. According to Opera, those were: Russia, Indonesia, India, China, Ukraine, the United States, South Africa, Nigeria, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.

The company also notes that data in Opera Mini is compressed by up to 90%. Had it been uncompressed, “Opera Mini users would have viewed over 3.7 petabytes of data in April,” Opera Software quantifies, adding that data traffic has been up 164% since April 2009.
