Norwegian software company Opera Software announced recently that its Opera Mini mobile browser has been chosen for being preloaded on two mobile phones that Sharp Corporation, leading manufacturer of electronic products from Japan, launched on the Indian market not too long ago.

Sharp SH0037D and Sharp SH6017D were announced for young mobile phone users in India with pre-installed Opera Mini so that they would offer a fast web browsing experience.

“There is no doubt that the mobile phone revolution has embraced India and to compliment that we have also seen exponential growth in mobile data traffic in the country,” Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software ASA.

“We are happy to be a part of this revolution in enabling mobile Internet and partner with a company such as Sharp as it introduces these two phones for the Indian market.”

Opera Mini is the most used mobile browser in the world, Opera states. The application enjoys a number of over 80 million users, and is available on a range of thousands of handset models.

Not only was Opera Mini designed so as to offer faster page rendering when compared to other similar applications, but it was also packed with server-side data compression technology, so that data consumption is significantly reduced.

Opera Mini delivers content most efficiently and easily with the use of user-friendly functions, such as tabs, URL auto-complete and highlights keywords, which enables users to find the information they are looking for easier and faster on mobile screens,” Opera notes.

As for the new smartphones that Sharp launched on the Indian market, we should note that they arrive on shelves as Alice (SH0037D) and Blink (SH6017D).

While the former comes with a touchscreen display and social networking capabilities, the latter offers support for two GSM SIM cards in a clamshell design. The handsets are detailed on Sharp's website here and here, respectively.
