Opera Mini, the most popular mobile browser in the world, is expected to hit a number of more than 60 mobile phone models in Brazil via a recently signed partnership between Opera Software and local wireless carrier TIM.

A new, co-branded application called “Navegador TIM,” would be pushed out to mobile phone users, either as a free download, or pre-installed on varios handsets from the wirless carrier.

The operator also has in place special offerings via its Infinity Web promotion, including unlimited Internet access on handsets via the co-branded “Navegador TIM” browser for only R$0.50 a day.

“For postpaid subscribers, TIM will offer the Liberty Web promotion, a free subscription to unlimited data for six months when a customer buys a handset equipped for mobile Internet, followed by a nominal charge of R$28 a month,” the wireless carrier announced.

The availability of Opera Mini in Brazil via TIM is part of the operator's efforts to deliver web access to its subscribers.

“We are very happy that TIM has chosen Opera Mini to be part of this large rollout of its mobile Internet strategy,” said Roy Satterthwaite, Senior VP, Americas, Opera Software.

“Opera Mini’s unique features coupled with TIM’s competitive pricing will allow Brazilians to have the power of the Internet at their fingertips while on the move — at rates much lower than cybercafes.”

According to Opera, the Opera Mini browser offers an experience similar to that provided by its browser on desktop computers.

The application is already used by more than 60 million mobile phone owners all over the world, the company added.

Some of the main features of the latest version of the browser include: Speed Dial, bookmarks, tabbed browsing and password manager, as well as web page compression by up to 90 percent.

“To install Opera Mini, subscribers need to visit the TIM mobile portal at m.tim.com.br and download “Navegador TIM”, which is one of the featured apps. The data plans from TIM will also work on the public and co-branded Opera Mini versions that are available for download from www.opera.com,” the two companies announced.
