Owners of Android-based devices out there can now download and install a new mobile application meant to provide them with data savings, namely Opera Max beta.

The software was released on Android back in December, when it was in a private test version, available only for users in the United States, but its availability has been expanded now.

The app comes from Opera, one of the world’s leading Internet companies, and should prove a great tool for all users who like downloading content on their devices.

“Opera Max beta is a free, powerful and easy-to-use app that saves you mobile data. Get up to 50% data savings from compressing video, images and text on almost every app on your phone,” Opera notes in the application’s description.

The software was made available for testing purposes for the time being, as Opera is getting ready for its global rollout, though it might not be too long before a final version is released as well.

Those interested in the new application should head over to the Google Play Store to download it. Opera Max beta is listed as version 0.8.518 at the moment.

Unfortunately, the mobile client is compatible only with smartphones running under Android 4.4 or newer platform releases at the moment.

As mentioned above, the software was released mainly for testing purposes at the moment, and its description makes that very clear.

“We now wish to test our capacity for data-savings properly before we roll it out worldwide. Invitations to the app will come on a first-come, first-served basis. So just download this app to reserve your place in line. We'll start giving the early birds access in a few days,” Opera notes.

“Opera Max is made by Opera Software, a company with more than ten years' experience in researching and developing mobile data-compression technology.”
