Following Opera’s January announcement that its feature-packed web browser was making its way onto tablet computers, Softpedia speculated that an iPad-native port was imminent.

Espen André Øverdahl, community manager for the Norwegian software vendor, was proud to make the official announcement on the Opera blog, saying:

“At the annual upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas we will unveil the first public preview of Opera for tablets. DotEd, Community Manager for Opera will be at the tradeshow to make sure you get all the news about the latest technology from Opera and the tech industry.”

“Stay tuned for a lot of updates from CES, which starts January 6, right here on My Opera. In the meantime, enjoy this first preview of Opera for tablets.”

We noted at the time that, although the Opera for Tablets video preview featured an Android device, the web browser would undoubtedly emerge as an iPad-native app as well.

Indeed, the Norwegian software company has made optimizations for the iPad’s 9.7-inch display as well.

Opera has now confirmed via an official report that Apple’s iPad is getting its own version of the Opera web browser, which they plan to demo at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, on February 14.

The iPhone is on track to receive an updated version as well.

The official announcement is reproduced below (emphasis ours):

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, new versions of the Opera Mini browser on Android, iPhone, J2ME, BlackBerry, Symbian and even the iPad will appear. The Opera Mobile browser will not be left behind either, with the latest version for Android and Symbian making their debut.
