At the end of the past week, Opera Software delivered an update to the next version of its browser, with the promise that efforts will be kicked up a notch in order to produce the successor of Opera 10.0 as soon as possible. “From this point on we are shifting up a gear to get you a stable 10.5 as soon as we possibly can,” revealed Ruari Ødegaard, from the Opera Desktop team, as Opera 10.50 Pre-Alpha Build 3199 was made available for download. Just three days later, Opera 10.50 Pre-Alpha Build 3202 is now up for grabs.

The release is designed for an audience of testers and early adopters which understand the “dark side” of running pre-release software and that can deal with the risks. “This build still represents early work in progress; as before many things are known not to work. It can still annoy you, crash, and potentially wipe all your precious bookmarks. Backup first!” advised Daniel Aleksandersen, from the opera Desktop team.

There are a range of improvements in Build 3202, but the main difference compared to Build 3199, is that the latest release of Opera 10.50 is available not just for Windows, but also for Mac OS X and Linux. “Presto have been upgraded to version 2.5.20 with improved stability and site compatibility fixes. Among the fixes are the crash when enabling fit-to-width, crash when opening a PDF, and the Acid3 and DOM performance regression from Saturday’s snapshot build,” Aleksandersen added.

Of course, with the development process of Opera 10.50 being in its earliest stages, all feedback and input testers can give the company will be welcome. “Our bug wizard is very interested in any serious bugs. We want to bring this up to beta quality fast, so please help us out by reporting the problems you encounter!” Aleksandersen said.
