An Anonymous hacker that uses the online moniker Cypher has started launching distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks against the websites of major Iranian organizations. The attacks are part of the recently resumed Operation Iran (OpIran).

The hacker says he’s currently attacking the website of the Library, Museum and Document Center of Parliament (ical.ir), which has been down for around one hour. The site was attacked yesterday by the same hacktivist, and kept down for about two hours.

In addition to ical.ir, the hacker has also disrupted the sites of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran (majlis.ir), the Economic Research Institute (eri.ir), and the Aerospace Industries Organization (aio.ir).

The last two sites are still offline.

Cypher says he’s not using a botnet to launch the attacks, but instead, he’s utilizing PyLoris and his “own tools.”

“I am attacking Iran to save people, I am a freedom fighter. Iran government blocked VPN. That’s why I am attacking Iran,” the hacker said via Twitter.
