It appears that it’s not difficult for hackers to gain access to the online income tax accounts of Indian citizens. This was first demonstrated earlier this month when a Hyderabad-based chartered accountancy student hacked the account of Anil Ambani, a famous Indian businessman.

While investigating this attack, Mumbai Police found that Ambani’s account was illegally accessed from another location as well. Their investigation led them to an accountancy firm in Noida.

Sanchit Katiyal, a chartered accountancy student, used the company’s computers to hack into the income tax accounts of Ambani, Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, and cricket players Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, The Indian Express reports.

The incidents demonstrate the fact that online income tax accounts can be easily compromised. The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Subodh Aggarwal, has noted that strict action will be taken against the students.

Aggarwal has also stated that the organization will notify the government regarding the vulnerable systems.
