Earlier today I told you next-gen Intel super slim Ultrabooks with Broadwell central processing units will arrive on the market as early as Q4 2014, according to sources familiar with the matter.

As we’re waiting on that, you might want to check out an offering from a not very well-known manufacturer. The company calls the product a SlimBook and as it turns out the device is pretty comparable with an Ultrabook, in terms of weight and not only.

Meet the Onkyo R5A-51C68, a notebook boasting a beautiful aluminum alloy casing that might impress your aesthetic senses. The lappy has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display with a capable HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). The Onkyo notebook draws power from a 1.60GHz Intel Core i5-4200U processor (Haswell), combined with Intel HD Graphics 4400 and fitted with a hefty 8GB of RAM.

Onkyo also throws in a 500GB hard drive, 1MP webcam, a card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, built-in stereos and Windows 8.1 as default operating system.

Judging by the specifications, the laptop should handle pretty much what you throw at it, including the most recent games. Onkyo has created its own category for the R5A-51C68, calling it a SlimBook and indeed the lappy is only 1.46 kg / 3.2 lbs. Compare that to the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook, which weighs 1.37 kg / 3.02 lbs, to see that the difference isn't that grand.

The Dell XPS 13 also starts at a hefty $1,049 / €764, but the Onkyo will take you back with only $884 / €644 once it arrives on March 14.
