OnePlus One owners have to deal with a new issue

A few weeks ago, we told you that Chinese phone maker OnePlus was working hand in hand with hardware supplier Synaptics (in charge of delivering the hardware interface for touch on the company’s flagship) on a firmware update that will solve a problem OnePlus One owners have been consistently complaining about.

But now that the update is available to owners, another issue seems to have arisen. The original problem OnePlus was trying to deal with was persistent touchscreen issues. Over the last 12 months, the company rolled out a number of fixes, aimed to solve those problems, but none of them seemed to work perfectly.

That’s why OnePlus was trying to fix the issue once and for all with a final firmware update. The good news is that the new update seems to be solving the problems and owners of the OnePlus One who download and install CM12.1 shouldn't be seeing those annoying touchscreen nuances anymore.

OnePlus One owners now confronted with battery drainage

However, sometimes, good things can also bring along unwanted negative effects. Which is exactly the case with this firmware update. It appears that CM12.1 nightly is prone to draining the handset’s battery in a very visible way. Users are very unhappy with the situation and Cyanogen was consequently forced to revert the software.

Here’s what one of the users discussing the topic on the xda-developers forum has said:

“Initial testing indicates it might be the touchscreen firmware itself causing the initial drain. More testing is needed to be certain, but I tried this and was still seeing the increased drain, even on the previous nightly and firmware with the new touchscreen drivers.”

But given that the firmware update was launched as a nightly build, users should have anticipated a few bugs packed along for the ride. Anyway, OnePlus and Cyanogen are yet to push the update to the masses via an OTA update. Only the nightly was made available, so users had a choice whether to install it or not.

If you have had enough of all these troubles, there’s another way out of this situation. So if you are dealing with a similar situation on your OnePlus One, the company says you can go ahead and contact your local OnePlus support team and demand a replacement.
