Cyanogen announced a few days ago that it would release version 12 of its OS for three smartphones beginning this month: OnePlus One, YU Yureka and Alcatel Hero 2+.

According to the company, the update would be available “in a few weeks” for the first two of the devices mentioned earlier and sometime in June for the Alcatel smartphone.

Today, OnePlus is back with an official statement confirming once again that CyanogenMod 12 OS will arrive on OnePlus One smartphone on March 30, 2015.

The company claims that it never intended to keep OnePlus One owners waiting, but they ran into some “unexpected roadblocks.” Here is the company's official statement regarding the reasons for the Lollipop delay:

“First, there was an unforeseen OS signing issue, which has recently been resolved. Our camera module had stability issues on Lollipop, and we had to rebuild it for compatibility. Several other crucial drivers, including our Wi-Fi drivers, also needed to be updated to work flawlessly with the upgrade.”

If deadlines are missed, free phones will be given

OnePlus also says that, even if it took a longer time to deliver the update, it's proud that it will release bug-free updates that offer superior experiences.

In that regard, the company also announced that the official release of its own Lollipop-based ROM (Oxygen OS) would be available for download on or before March 27, 2015.

Last but not least, OnePlus one claims that if they miss any of these deadlines, they will give away five 64GB OnePlus One smartphones to its fans.

Even though giveaways are always nice, let's hope OnePlus does not miss any deadlines for the release of Lollipop for one of the most popular Android smartphones available on the market. We'll be keeping an eye out for this one, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
