Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus made a lot of waves when it launched its “flagship killer” One handset in 2014.

The device ran Cyanogen’s custom ROM out of the box and was sold only online via an elitist invite system.

Well, after the marriage between OnePlus and Cyanogen was torn apart, the company was left working on its own custom ROM, for which it invited fans to think of names.

Expect a OnePlus 2 handset in the future

While the rumor mill has been saying that the next OnePlus handset will arrive in the wild as OnePlus Two, a recent report from Forbes claims the company is looking to drop the letter naming scheme and take up numbers instead.

So it is expected that when the successor launches, we will see it arrive in the wild as the OnePlus 2 (notice the Arabic numeral).

The report also mentions that we shouldn’t hope to see the OnePlus 2 roll out anytime soon. That’s because the manufacturing challenges the Snapdragon 810 is faced with are pushing back the release date.

However, companies like LG seem to have found a workaround for this problem, so we will be able to deliver the LG G Flex 2 to customers on time.

Qualcomm has also been said to be willing to redesign the Snapdragon 810 for Samsung, so the Korean tech giant will go ahead and implement it in its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S6.

What we know so far about the OnePlus 2

Possible specs of the OnePlus 2 have been detailed in the past and include a 5.5-inch QHD resolution display, the aforementioned Snapdragon 810 fitted with a delicious 4GB of RAM plus a respectable 3,300 mAh battery.

The handset is expected to don Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and go on sale for $435 / €375.

According to the latest bit of information related to the matter, the OnePlus 2 should make its way into the wild in Q3 2015, as OnePlus is reportedly taking its sweet time in order to ensure Qualcomm deals with the Snapdragon 810 issues permanently.
