The time has arrived. A time for authorities from all around the world to join their forces and start an offensive against the pirated content and the torrent trackers. After TorrentSpy kept the front page of the newspapers for several weeks, Demonoid is now brought in the spotlights as the BitTorrent tracker was unavailable in the last 24 hours. According to TorrentFreak, Demonoid was probably shut down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association, an organization which fights against the pirated content and its distribution.

What's most interesting is that the Demonoid administrators discovered the problem but they sustained they don't know a thing about it since nobody informed them the website was shut down. It seems like the CRIA contacted the Demonoid ISP in order to block the access to the website and to the tracker due to several piracy complaints.

A few months ago, TorrentSpy, one of the largest torrent search engines was sent to the judge because several companies accused it of pirated software distribution. Moreover, the court demanded TorrentSpy to provide private information about the users who accessed the service but the service's administrators refused as the privacy guidelines infringes this action.

"This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid's ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator's personal details, but Demonoid relocated their servers before any harm was done," TorrentFreak made the history of the service.

So, the torrent trackers are one by one shut down and their users might be involved into piracy lawsuits which might reveal some unexpected sentences. It's quite obvious that the fight against the distribution of the pirated content has started so just try to remain on the safe side and avoid legal problems.
