Google News is currently one of the most popular news solutions on the Internet with millions of readers every day. The product receives headlines from more than 4.500 sources located in the entire world and organizes the information on multiple categories including Tech, World, Entertainment and Sports. Although the service uses only the headline of the news but places a link to the original publishers of the article, Google was often criticized for receiving praises for the content provided by other sources.

Even if numerous companies are attacking Google, the news service attracts more and more users looking to find the latest information in certain domains. Today, Multilingual Search reported that Google News Portugal now has one more rival because Sapo, the largest Internet portal in the country, revealed a similar news service.

"Sapo Local uses AJAX to gather news from different places into a personalized "news homepage". This different places include blogs and other established news websites. A Sapo user can now access news along a broad spectrum of subjects, without leaving the portal. There is also a cool feature that allows users to search the news, very similar to Google News. Alongside those news you can also find contextual ads, from Anuncios Sapo (Sapo Ads) and Google Adwords," Multilingual Search reported today.

In the past, Google News encountered more than a single problem created by a powerful rival: the news service was criticized for publishing headlines without authorization and it was even sued by several Belgian newspapers. At that time, the court decided that Google must remove the content provided by the publications and avoid further articles sent by them. Yahoo News was another news service sued by the Belgian newspapers but at this time, Sapo is the main rival for Google News in Portugal.
