Any one person must have at least one horrible memory of a five-hour flight or drive during which there was nothing to do but stare at the walls or the road. It seems that the gentlemen and gentlewomen at Viewsonic either know about such things or experienced them on their own enough to come up with a device meant to fill those long hours of emptiness.

The VPD400 is an ultra-thin, mobile media player especially designed to allow for the enjoyment of HD media files while traveling, working or even just relaxing on a comfortable outdoor sofa. The gadget runs on batteries capable of delivering up to 12 continuous hours of audio or six hours of video playback at an output of 720p.

The player uses a 4.3-inch LCD screen capable of a 800 x 480 resolution and is fully capable of displaying subtitles. The usability doesn't limit itself to videos. Managing photo albums, reading digital books, listening to and recording audio files are all easily performed by the VPD400. The player has 8GB of internal memory and an extendable Micro SD storage slot for an additional storage capability.

Of course, not all popular features were packed into this small frame. If they are to decide on this purchase, touchscreen enthusiasts will have to make due with the existing buttons, as touch technology was not used in the player's creation. However, with only this disadvantage, the product still appeals to any one of the millions of people who travel on a regular basis.

The VDP400 MovieBook can play back a very wide range of formats, including AVI, MKV, FLV, MPG, MOV, MPG, VOB, RM/RMVB, H.264, MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC and DTS/AC3.

The media player will be available in time for Christmas and will come in black, pink and white colors. The retail price is equal to US$ 129.99.
