As we’re breaking out of winter, our wardrobes must undergo the usual “spring cleaning,” in preparation for the sunny days ahead. Being on a budget should, by no account, mean that we’re to limit ourselves to items we have from last year, or even older than that, or that we can settle for less. To look our best and trendiest for the upcoming season, below are some basic fashion tips, as comprised by Liz Jones of the Daily Mail.

First thing first, we simply have to forget about that golden, unwritten rule that white is to be worn only on holidays. Thanks to the latest collections from great designers, white is making a strong comeback this year, both in terms of office wear and casual clothes.

If we’re on a budget, stylists say, then there’s no better way to keep up with the trends than by simply picking up a few white cotton tees and tops. Either regular or asymmetric, they will do great in any combination, while also offering a plus of comfort and elegance.

Another aspect that we should not overlook as regards the coming hot days is related to our daily makeup. As the cold winter days are turning into a distant memory, so must heavy makeup. At times, the harsh sunlight can make even a perfect face look flawed, which means that too much foundation may create the “caked” impression. Stylists share that the best way to avoid this is to apply as little makeup as possible, and always while sitting in front of a well-lit window.

Synthetics are also another thing we might want to steer clear of this spring and following summer. While some of them do look good on certain occasions, most of the time, they come off as cheap – without even mentioning that they can make us feel hot and sticky.

Silk is the best replacement for synthetic fabrics, which is why a silk top or loose blazer works excellently with a summery dress, while also keeping us warm at night. Since we’re talking of going out at night, sequins are off-limits before 6 in the evening, stylists warn us.

One last tip is more of a common sense one than anything else. In summer, most of us feel tempted to give in to comfort to the disadvantage of style. Be that as it may, there is absolutely no excuse for dressing for the beach at work, especially since it can be avoided so easily. Cut shorts or midriff-baring tops, hotpants and sheer dresses are not meant to be worn at the office, so it’s best if we just kept them in the closet and only took them out when on holiday, as they have been designed precisely with this purpose in mind.
