The smartwatch is definitely a device that has been receiving a lot of attention lately. From Google to Samsung, nearly every company has or will be launching one. Just like the phone is not a device for just making phone calls anymore, the watch will soon do more than just tell the time.

One such project is the Omate TrueSmart, that has just launched its kickstarter campaign. Dubbed the first IP67 Water-resistant smartwatch, it has all the functions of a watch and smartphone, all wrapped in one device.

Laurent le Pen, CEO of Omate said, "For more than a year, we have built a team with a broad range of expertise from Design to Engineering to create what we consider the most advanced smart wearable lifestyle product, setting new standards in the wearable computing field."

"For funding the production as well as fortifying the apps development, we have chosen to appeal to supporters via the world's best crowd funding platform. The reason being we truly believe that innovation of connected lifestyle products developed and funded by supporters, for the supporters is the best way."

As far as technical specifications go, the device is on-par with most current low- to middle-end smartphones. It comes with a dual-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.3GHz, has a 1.54-inch TFT multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 512 MB memory with 4GB of storage capacity and a 600mAh battery with a standby time of up to 100 hours.

Add voice control, a 5 MP camera and Android 4.2.2 and it might be just the thing to replace your smartphone, if a little more than "basic" is what you are looking for.

It also comes with its very own UI, called the Omate UI 1.0. As to why they have chosen to launch a kickstarter funding campaign, I will let Laurent Le Pen answer, "We have scheduled two production runs in October and November, appealing to supporters worldwide to support us, so we can give everyone an early Christmas present."
