Soon enough, there might be a new smartwatch on the market, one that could, in fact, do some stuff better than the Pebble and Samsung's Galaxy Gear. Maybe.

Content supplying deals and retail channel access will determine success, but the actual merchandise might be better than anyone expects.

And it's all because of the 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor at the heart of the gadget. And as annoying as it is, that's really all we know here.

We can only assume that the watch will run Android, or a variation thereof, or maybe some other OS that will, nonetheless, be able to interface with Android and iOS phones, tablets and whatever else. Likely via Bluetooth.

And since the MediaTek SoC is supposed to be affordable, hopefully the Omate smartwatch will be cheap too, when it comes out in 2014.
