In an official statement, Olympus Japan declared that the current demand for their Olympus M Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens was higher than expected and current pre-orders might not be shipped as scheduled.

US retailer, Amazon, displays the lens as “Temporarily out of stock,” but no ETA has been given for the final shipment day, which was previously set for December 7.

According to 43rumors, the 12-40mm f/2.8 lens has been already shipped to some of the first buyers that pre-ordered the lens right after it was made available.

The new Olympus M Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens was announced back in September at the same time with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 mirrorless camera.

Recent test results that compared the new Olympus lens with its direct rivals (Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH, Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM and Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM), showed that the new 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro is capable of delivering very good optical quality of a Micro Four Thirds camera.
