Since CES is almost ready to start, the rumor mill is spinning at light speeds, the latest piece of information we've managed to come across being related to the latest addition to Olympus' lineup of mirrorless interchangeable lens digital cameras, namely the E-PL2 model. A successor to the E-PL1, which we've also had the chance of testing earlier this year, the E-PL2 will apparently provide a serious image quality boost, as well as some interesting new connectivity options, according to a report by Electronista.

While featuring a slimmer body, the future pocket DSLR will also be a lot more video recording – friendly, as it will be accompanied by a new 14-42mm, f3.5-5.6 kit lens, designed to provide enhanced video capture quality.

Additional improvements will include an increase in light sensitivity to ISO 6,400, while the three-inch LCD will double in resolution to 460,000 pixels.

As previously mentioned, another interesting surprise might be the availability of an external Bluetooth accessory known as Penpal, that would connect to the camera's body via the hot shoe and send photos over Bluetooth to a paired Android or Windows Mobile (but not Windows Phone) device, for further sharing with the world via a mobile Internet connection.

All of these improvements paint a pretty interesting picture of what we should expect from the future E-PL2 pocket DSRL, especially since quite a few of the features that made its predecessor such an interesting product will still be found in the new version (and we're talking here about the art filters, easy-to-use menus, useful photography tips, built-in flash module, etc.).

Unfortunately, there's still no info on the E-PL2's possible pricing or availability, but we really hope that Olympus will decide to make available these important details during CES 2011, when the launch of the new camera is expected.
