The game will get a visual update but will keep true to the original formula, getting even more tricks to pull off

Developer Roll7 and Sony have announced that OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood will launch for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita sometime in 2015.

The game is playable from September 25 through September 28 at EGX London, at the PlayStation stand, in case you're in the area.

The news comes from an entry on the PlayStation Blog, penned by Roll7 Director Simon Bennett, confirming that a sequel is in the works and expanding on some of the new features that the developer intends to add to the freestyle skateboarding experience.

The same retro vibe

The game is getting a makeover, with clean lines instead of the pixelated madness of OlliOlli, but the action and overall art direction will keep that old-school vibe intact.

"Our iconic 'skater dude' is going all green-screen and will be getting radical at Olliwood Studios, plucking him from the street and dropping him squarely in the middle of the Silver Screen's most radical cinematic locations."

"Most of the Roll7 team are children of the '80s so we are digging into our movie memory to create the most badass stages for players to grind through (excuse the pun)," Bennett says.

Greatly enhanced gameplay

For the second installment in the series, the team decided to take the combo madness even further, with the addition of Ramps, Jumps and Epic Hills, enabling players to do monster air tricks and split level routes.

The in-depth combo system will be expanded even further, with the inclusion of Manuals, Reverts, Revert Manuals, and Grind Switching.

The Tricktionary is getting updated with a ton of new tricks, including Anti-Casper Flips, Darkslides, and 540 Shuvits.

The team is also planning to surprise its fans with a brand-new game mode titled Combo Rush, enabling two to four players to race to ramp up the biggest score in a set time limit, in split-screen local multiplayer.

Cross-platform goodness

Bennett has also mentioned that the platform exclusivity is only a timed deal, and after six months, Roll7 is free to port the game to any other systems.

"Sony insisted there should be a sequel, but they really haven't been pushy about what we do. As long as we're on PlayStation first, we're fine," he reveals.

Good news for those of you who enjoyed the game on PC and were wondering whether the sequel will follow in the first game's footsteps.

OlliOlli was initially released on the PlayStation Vita in January, and it made its way over to Windows, Mac OS and Linux in July, followed by Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 home consoles at the end of August.

OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood has no release window other than 2015 yet.
