Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Otis Alexander, 11 months ago, and the proud mommy is very eager to talk about her experience so far. Being in the public eye means that people pin unrealistic expectations on her all the time - and she’s very happy to tear them down.

Female celebrities are now “expected” to bounce back from pregnancy in as little as a couple of weeks, and many of those who do take pride in it - and rejoice in the coverage they get from it. Olivia is not one of them.

“I am not in perfect shape”

Granted, she’s always been of a slender build, but even if she weren’t, she would probably not sweat the pregnancy weight gain too much.

In her typical candid fashion, Wilde tells Shape Magazine that there’s simply too much pressure on women to get back in shape after delivering a baby, and she doesn’t understand where this desire to “erase” “any physical evidence of [the] child-bearing experience” comes from.

New mothers should enjoy the experience by bonding with the latest addition to the family, not stress over what they eat or spending too much time at the gym, missing out on the important moments.

At the same time, she’s not speaking against working out post-pregnancy: however, Wilde says, the focus of new moms should be on working out and eating healthy for the body and mind, not because society is trying to impose on them an unattainable ideal of “perfection.”

Speaking of ideal bodies, Olivia no longer has hers.

“I am not in perfect shape,” she says. “In fact, I’m softer than I’ve ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot. The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I’m a mother, and I look like one.”

In the gallery below, you will find the cover shot of Wilde looking as fit and beautiful as ever in a short top and high-waisted skirt. We have no other choice but to believe her when she says that gorgeous figure is all down to good angles, lighting and designer clothes.

Having fun is a priority

Olivia Wilde works out regularly, even now when she’s a new mom, as countless paparazzi photos available online can confirm. She also walks for most of her errands, and as per her own admission, she takes dance classes, so it’s really no surprise she’s already back to her pre-pregnancy body.

Still, it’s refreshing to hear a female celebrity openly admit in an interview that she loves beer and pizza, and having fun with the two men in her life, as opposed to sweating for hours on end at the gym and living by the number on the scales.

Then again, Olivia Wilde has never been what you could call a “typical” female celebrity, which explains why she has such a huge following online. Her most recent comments are bound to make her even more popular.
